Ash Cloud & Music
It’s been a while since I put up a blog. I’ve been busy and that eh! Larissa and myself had a crazy month (she complained I don’t mention her enough on here). To kick things off, one of our tracks was used for a whole week during a GM:TV holiday segment and I had no idea it was being used until I was sitting watching it in my pants as I got ready for work in the morning. Not noticing the email from Larissa I had received the previous Sunday night telling me it was going to be aired for most of the week. Anyway, that was a nice surprise. You can download the track they used titled ‘Yellow T-Shirts’ for free from my bln.kr page. It was a track that I composed and recorded a demo of at the start of 2009, Larissa then came in and chopped it up, re-recorded some of the strings and that was that. Job done.
Fuckin’ great black cloud from hell…
Our sessions with Lykke Li were postponed to a later date because of the mega ash cloud that has been taking over the world. We are expected to start recording some demos after the summer festival season. Even though I’m not a massive festival fan, I hope they all go off without a hitch and all the bands are able to make it as most mugs are paying way over the odds for their tickets. Who knows when the killer cloud from hell will strike again. You can still download the free Lykke Li track from the DimeRock Records website. Can’t be arsed going to get the link so you can go on there and search yourself.
Channel 5 Update
As you may be aware (I think I mentioned it in an earlier blog) Mysterious Dale, Larissa and myself have been working for the last 4/5 months on 6 separate tracks to be used in a channel 5 documentary series. We have now completed and mastered all the tracks and they have been passed on to the post production people to work their magic and chop them to shit. I have no real experience in making music for TV so this has been a great learning curve for me and I’m glad Larissa was there to take on most of the heavy load. We now wait to see when the shows will be aired. I’ll post news up here and on facebook as soon as I hear about it. My personal favorite track we recorded was for the documentary covering Sleep Walking. I’ll upload it and link here as soon as I can.
It’s all gone a bit Pete Tong… or right!
As most of you will know, I like to mess about and remix The Streets / Mike Skinner. A couple of weeks ago I took some time out at the studio to mess about with some original music/beats that I had been working on and stuck it all together with a little bit of Mike in the middle. I never thought that after releasing it through twitter and Facebook that it would take off and get aire time on Radio One with Pete Tong! It was a mash up of Streets tracks, Vocals and the scraps I had lying around the studio after all!
Thanks to everyone who downloaded it for free from bln.kr / Last.fm / DimeRock Records / Sound Cloud and NME and to the immediate Streets Heads – Jamie Hodson, Richard Shepherd, Tess De Jong, Emma Jones (whatsapp queen) , Addolorata (Like The Sound Blog) and Emma Pope, (I know I’m missing a few important ones but you know who you are). It’s a great representation of just how easy it is to get your music heard on the internet and then take it that little bit further on to the radio. Anyway, download it for free from my bln.kr page.
Other stuff
I’ve been busy promoting the record label and writing alongside Vice Records over the last month or so and will post more about this once everything has been cleared and I’m given permission to stick it up on here. This bloody blog post long enough yet? I’m heading off in June to Amsterdam with T4 for a couple of days along with the boys on a “work” related matter and will be filming the whole experience on my little Kodak Zi8 HD camera so you can see what we get up to (the parts I’m allowed to show) so look out for that over on the DimeRock TV website soon.
More free music
Seeing as the summer is almost upon us (pissing it down in Scotland), You can download my version of ‘Summertime’ by Billy Holliday. It’s a creepy take on the song but sums up the Scottish summer I think. Enjoy.
As always you can find me all over the net. Here are a few links that may crop up.
